A Statement from the Party Chairman

Tuesday, 17th August 2010

Picture of Paul Nuttall Party Chairman

It has been announced today that Lord Pearson of Rannoch is to stand down as Leader of the UK Independence Party.

The Party would like to thank Lord Pearson for all his hard work and endeavour during his time as Party Leader. Lord Pearson took on the leadership six months before the General Election and guided the party to a 50% increase in our share of the vote.

Lord Pearson will remain a UK Independence Party peer and will continue to both represent the party in the House of Lords and raise funds for the cause.

On a personal note, I am saddened to see a Party Leader stand down, whose vision to restructure and professionalise the party I share. However, I am pleased that Lord Pearson will carry on working tirelessly to help this country extricate itself from the European Union.

The National Executive Committee will meet as soon as possible to appoint an interim Leader before a leadership election will be held following the Annual Party Conference, which will take place in Torquay from 2-4 September 2010.

Britain fined £150 million for failing to promote EU

Wednesday 18 August

Last month, it emerged that Brussels bureaucrats had ordered the British Government to collect an astonishing £150 million from organisations and companies because of failures to prominently display the EU flag on premises that were receiving funding.

Now Business chiefs have issued advice to companies and public bodies on how to escape heavy penalties for failing to display European Union flags after British organisations were fined an astonishing £150 million for not giving the EU enough publicity.

Companies receiving European grants must display its logo on their buildings, posters and websites or face being forced to pay back some of the funding. Now Yorkshire Forward, a regional development agency, has produced an 18-page booklet that advises organisations how to escape the punitive penalties.

The pamphlet details 'approved' versions of the EU flag, instructions on its colour and dimensions, and the precise wording that must accompany the logo. The rules also require building and infrastructure projects to display billboards and plaques praising the EU for providing funds.

UK's payments to EU jump by 60 per cent
The Daily Telegraph has reported Britain's payments to the European Union will soar by almost 60 per cent next year, according to figures "buried" in government documents.
The Treasury statistics show that the UK's net contribution to the EU will increase from 4.1 billion this year to 6.4 billion in 2010/11.
The figures were published in the Treasury's annual Community Finances statement, which was slipped out last month just before parliament broke up for its summer recess.
Editors Comment: The 6.4bn paid from VAT etc, is equivalent to around a 20% reduction in our council tax.
