WMRA-WMRSS Phase Two Revision Draft Public Consultation Period Extended.
Following the submission to the Secretary of State, the Regional Assembly received a letter from Baroness Andrews informing them that the Government Office for the West Midlands (GOWM) would be commissioning an independent study to provide further options that could deliver higher housing numbers.

Based on the assumption that the study willbe available on the 7th October 2008, we have therefore extended the WMRSS Phase Two Revision Draft consultation period to 12:00 noon on the 8th December 2008.

In the light of this, it is now anticipated that the Examination in Public will be held in Spring 2009, although a final date has still to be confirmed. .

MPs surrender the £1bn EU rebate

MPs voted last night to hand back £1billion of the European Union rebate won by Margaret Thatcher in 1984.
The move means Britain will receive less money from Brussels than all the EU's 27 states.
The Commons approved a 2005 deal agreed by Tony Blair to slash the rebate to around £3.5billion a year.
